The contemporary music scene in Sarawak is bursting with talent. Originally thought of as the backwater of Malaysian music, Sarawak has produced some major stars who can now sell out concerts in Kuala Lumpur and even internationally.
Dayang Nurfaizah was Sarawak’s breakthrough artist on the Malay pop scene, with over a dozen albums to her credit, including the Best Album
of 2006 from the Malaysian Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) for Kasih. She has also operated her own recording label since 2004.
Camelia is a household name in Malaysia and has also achieved international recognition as the first Malaysian to be signed by Universal Music. Her debut album, Camelia, won the Best New Artist and Best
Vocal Performance in an Album awards (AIM).

Alex Wong has recorded and performed as SingleTrackMind (or STM) since retiring from the professional Jet Ski racing circuit. His first album, No Reason, earned him three nominations for Best New Local English Artist, Best Engineered Album and Best Music Video in the 2004 AIM.

are the first Sarawak band to make their mark on
the Malaysian indie scene, with the hit song Bedroom Window. Recording on the Positive Tone label, they have released two highly acclaimed albums and tour occasionally while working on various side projects.
Shal Sagan is an acoustic/ emo/pop-punk singer songwriter from Kuching who has had substantial airplay on MTV. She is the first Sarawakian to present an award at the Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM, 2009). Singer, DJ, producer and talk-show host Jason Lo was the first Southeast Asian artist to reach the Top 3 on the Pepsi Top

Zee Avi, born in Miri, is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and ukulele player. The
first Malaysian artist to successfully promote her music via YouTube, she was discovered by Patrick Keeler of American supergroup The Raconteurs and signed by Brushfire Records. Her debut album was certified gold in four countries and she has recently released her third album, Nightlight.
