Perdana Putra, one of the most striking buildings in Putrajaya, houses the offices of the Prime Minister’s Department and is a powerful symbol of the executive branch of the Malaysian Government.
Political Situation
Malaysia enjoys a stable political situation with
the Barisan Nasional (National Front) coalition having held power since 1973, following on from its predecessor the Alliance (Perikatan) which governed from independence.
It is led by UMNO
(United Malays National Organisation), supported
by MCA (Malaysian Chinese Association), MIC (Malaysian Indian Congress), some smaller peninsula-based parties and regional parties from Sabah and Sarawak.
The main opposition parties are Parti-Islam Se- Malaysia (Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party or PAS), Parti Keadilan Rakyat (People’s Justice Party or PKR)
and the Democratic
