328 SARAWAK MEANS BUSINESS - FOREWORD
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the business section of The Guide To Sarawak, a publication designed to inform the corporate sector and the general public about developments and opportunities in our state.
Since 1951, the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been promoting economic growth, advocating the interests of diverse economic sectors, and providing a platform for communication with the Government as well as other business chambers and organisations.
SCCI is represented on the government’s Special Taskforce to Facilitate Business and
the Board of the Malaysian Productivity Corporation and the Employees Provident Fund, working to improve the ease of doing business and enhance productivity across key economic areas. SCCI also serves on the committee of Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) and a number of major international bodies. One of our biggest challenges is always to inform our colleagues accurately about Sarawak; this guide book, written and thoroughly researched by professionals, will certainly aid us in that task.
Sarawak is a land of abundance and entrepreneurship, with an educated workforce, a business-friendly government and almost limitless natural resources. Opportunities present themselves in every area of our economy, but most especially in sustainable power for energy-intensive industries through the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE). With every day that passes, Sarawak becomes a better and more rewarding place to
do business. Therefore I can only hope that readers take the time to peruse this book thoroughly and inform themselves about the opportunities that await.
Y Bhg Datuk Abang Haji Abdul Karim Tun Abang Haji Openg
President of Sarawak Chamber of Commerce & Industry
