THE GUIDE TO SARAWAK 339
  thrust of the SCORE
plan is to accelerate the development of these energy resources, allowing Sarawak to price its energy competitively and encourage investment by energy-intensive industries that will trigger rapid industrial and economic development throughout the State.
The development of hydropower capacity
will also allow for faster growth and expansion
of infrastructure in the interior of Sarawak, which in turn will accelerate
the growth of resource- based industries. The
two major hydroelectric projects currently being implemented are Bakun and Murum. The Bakun HEP with an installed capacity of 2,400MW
has already commenced operation, while the Murum HEP (944MW) is scheduled to start producing power by early 2015.
Development of 5 New Growth Nodes Investment efforts within SCORE will focus on
the five New Growth Nodes; Tanjung Manis, Mukah, Samalaju, Tunoh and Baram. The synergy between these five new growth nodes will drive the development and growth of the entire Central Region, Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole. Samalaju is being developed for heavy
and energy-intensive industries and includes
a new industrial park, specialized port facilities and a new township. Samalaju Industrial
Park, with an area
of more than 8,000 hectares, is currently under construction.
The Industrial Park is being equipped with comprehensive facilities, utilities and amenities, i.e. port, road infrastructure, sewerage treatment
plant, water supply, telecommunications, accommodation, leisure facilities, etc. to meet
the requirements of investors. The 275 kV power sub-station and power transmission lines from Bakun HEP have been completed to ensure ready power supply to the Park.
Tanjung Manis is being developed as a Halal Hub, the largest in Malaysia, focusing on the upstream and downstream food and manufacturing industries. The Halal Hub offers investors tremendous potential and opportunity to capture the increasing demand for halal products from both Muslim and non-Muslim markets globally.
Mukah is being developed as a smart city and
an administrative and service centre for the development of the corridor, focusing
One of many substations built to distribute SCORE’s clean, green energy to industrial and commercial customers.
