PUBLIC HEALTHCARE
Public healthcare in Sarawak is provided
by the Sarawak Health Department, under the Ministry of Health Malaysia, which is also responsible for regulating and licensing private healthcare facilities. Care is provided through
a network of 22 hospitals with 3,843 beds. Sarawak General Hospital (Hospital Umum Sarawak) is a major teaching, research and regional referral centre; 3 major hospitals provide specialist care at Sibu, Miri and Bintulu; 4 hospitals provide partial specialist care at Sarikei, Kapit,
Sri Aman and Limbang; 12 district hospitals
