MAIN FEATURES
Serving as the main aviation gateway into Sarawak, Kuching International Airport is also a major
base for the Royal Malaysian Air Force (No 7 Squadron RMAF). The original airport was built
by the British and opened in 1941, and in 1946 it handled the first ever scheduled services to Borneo, from Singapore.

11km south of Kuching city centre, just off the main Trans- Borneo Highway (Kuching- Serian road).
HOW TO GET THERE
Taxi or hotel shuttle from city centre. Taxis and car rental services are available at the airport. Abundant low-cost parking for private cars.
Kuching International Airport’s user-friendly open plan terminal building, completed in 2006.
expanded and upgraded over the years, and the modern open-plan terminal complex, opened in 2006,
is capable of handling well over 5 million passengers per annum. Kuching is currently handling about 4.2 million passengers and almost 50,000 aircraft movements annually, making it the third busiest airport in Malaysia.
The airside facilities comprise 9 bays, of which 3 bays are suitable for B747 & A380 widebody aircraft, and 4 remote bays for turboprop aircraft, as well as 3 bays
at the General Aviation Apron. The airport will soon be undergoing runway and taxiway upgrading to enable it to handle regular Airbus A380 and Boeing B747-
400 services, in order to develop long-haul traffic into Sarawak.
The airport is a secondary hub for Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and a principal
hub (together with Miri International Airport) for MASwings. Among the other airlines operating out of Kuching are AirAsia, Malindo Air and Silk Air, connecting
