PROPOSED EXPANSION
On 25 August 2017, Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd (WMSB) has received an Approval-in-Principle from the Government of Malaysia (“GOM”) to expand its container terminal facilities beyond CT9 (“Proposed Expansion”). The terms and conditions of the proposed expansion are subjected to further deliberations between the GoM and WMSB.
As part of the Proposed Expansion projected over the next 25 years, Westports plans to invest more than RM12 Billion to build the terminals from CT10 onwards, which may double the total container handling capacity to 28 million TEUs.
Over the past 27 years, Westports has successfully managed its operations, increased its profitability and outperformed privatisation objectives such as completion of construction and operationalisation of Container Terminal 6 to Container Terminal 9 well ahead of time.
Westports’ success is nothing short of phenomenal as it is the leading mega transhipment hub in Malaysia for the main shipping lines.
