REMOTE PHYSICAL-CHECK SYSTEM (RPS) FOR CARGO HANDLING
Westports Malaysia’s Remote Physical-Check System wins the Malaysia Technology Excellence Award for Infrastructure Technology in Cargo Handling hosted by Singapore Business Review.
Previously, stowage clerks physically inspected the loading and unloading of containers onto vessels at the wharf. With the RPS, it allows stowage clerks to perform verification processes remotely using Video Analytic Cameras installed on the Quay Cranes structure through networking devices installed at the Stowage Cabin.
The RPS is the world’s first implementation of a physical-check system on a wireless network and infrastructure that:
Improves Work Safety
Allows remote work from the terminal
Facilitates weather and pollution proof verification
Reduced turnaround time by one-third to 30 seconds
Cutting down the work of three employees to just one with redeployment to other operations
It was developed internally over two years from the proof-of-concept in 2018, to a pilot test in 2019, and finally to a full-scale implementation in 2020.
The RPS is an innovative solutions in improving operational
