THE FLAVOURS OF SARAWAK
 Indian Food
The population of Indians in Sarawak is very small, but their impact on local cuisine is massive. Restaurants
in all major towns serve
authentic northern and southern Indian dishes, including tandoori chicken,
masalas of all types, vegetarian fare and the popular ‘banana leaf’
rice –served on a banana- leaf with vegetables and optional curry side dishes and various relishes.
Many varieties of breads such as tosai, chapati and
naan are served with dhal or curry and the popular roti canai grilled flatbread has actually become a Malay staple, with many Malay restaurants also serving a range of dishes that are South Indian in origin.
A typical South Indian lamb curry, served on a stainless steel thali plate together with biryani rice, vegetables and condiments.
