KIDURONG OBSERVATION TOWER
Tanjung Kidurong, 8km from Bintulu Town Centre.
This viewing tower offers commanding views of Bintulu’s oil and gas facilities and structures. It’s best to go shortly after dark to enjoy the spectacular flame-offs from the refineries and processing facilities.
TUGU COUNCIL NEGERI SARAWAK
Jalan Abang Galau
This monument, featuring a gilded cupola, clock tower and fountain, commemorates Malaysia’s first and oldest state legislative assembly meeting in September 1867, attended by five British officers and 16 local chieftains.

BRIGHTON BEACH

This small beach is popular for jogging and Tai Chi
in the early morning or
late afternoon. Two small piers are popular with
local fishermen, and offer excellent views of the Seahorse Lighthouse. Taman Selera, a popular seafood centre, is located next to the beach, making
it an ideal spot for watching the sunset.

LUAK BAY ESPLANADE

This attractively landscaped promenade has a magnificant white sand beach, as well as rest areas
and barbecue facilities, making it a popular spot for local day trippers. It is an excellent place to enjoy the spectacular tropical sunsets and refreshing sea breezes.
MARINA BAY

Built on reclaimed land, Miri Marina Bay houses the Miri Marina (see page 282), the iconic Seahorse Lighthouse, symbol of the City of Miri, and an open-air seafood restaurant. It is an excellent place to sip a drink and observe the sunset.
MIRI CITY FAN

This award-winning urban park complex comprises a variety of themed gardens, including a Botanical Garden and an Islamic Garden. It is also home
to Miri Library, a Public Swimming Pool, and a large Amphitheatre for concerts and other major events. The City Fan is popular with locals for strolling, jogging or just chilling out.
MIRI HANDICRAFT CENTRE
Jalan Brooke
The centre is a showcase for the ethnic arts and crafts of northern
Sarawak. Items on sale include Penan mats and basketry, Orang Ulu beadwork and woodcarvings, and
a variety of textiles from around the state. Craftspeople can
also be seen at work. Cultural performances are occasionally held at weekends.

Pustaka Miri is the northern branch of the Sarawak State Library (see page 136) and offers a similar range
of services. It also has a fine collection of materials relating to Miri and its history.

The lovingly restored Old Town’s narrow streets are crammed with tiny shops selling a huge variety
of goods, from Chinese funeral supplies to hi-tech electronics, and here are some of the most traditional
       Miri City Fan, with Pustaka Miri (Miri Library) at the centre.
