Jalan Masjid
One of only two Sikh places of worship in Sarawak,
the current building, consecrated in 1982, was built on the site of an older wooden building dating from 1912. The imposing 3-storey structure is an important city centre landmark.

LIM FAH SAN MONASTERY
Jalan Tabuan
One of the largest and most popular temples in Kuching, this modern monastery temple is one of the city’s major landmarks and is distinguished by its giant statue of Guan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy.
SHANG TI TEMPLE
Carpenter Street
Built by Teochew Chinese migrants in 1863 and
rebuilt after a fire in 1889, this temple has recently undergone an extensive restoration. It is dedicated to the deity Hiang Thian Siang Ti, and to a child-god who is said to have rescued Kuching from the great fire of 1884.
TUA PEK KONG TEMPLE
Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman
Kuching’s oldest and best- known temple is a popular visitor attraction with
its location overlooking
the Sarawak River. It is dedicated to the Malaysian Chinese deity Tua Pek Kong, who in mortal life was reputed to ride a tiger, also depicted in the temple.
CHING SAN YEN TEMPLE
Muara Tebas
A candidate for Sarawak’s
oldest temple, this large and beautifully decorated building sits on a hilltop above the fishing village of Muara Tebas. It attracts over 250,000 visitors annually
to enjoy the sea views and pay homage to Buddhist Bodhisattvas and Ma Cho, the Goddess of the Seas.
FUNG SHAN TEMPLE
Wayang Street
This Hokkien Chinese temple, also known as the Phoenix Mountain Temple,
is dedicated to the deity Guang Ze Tian Wang. Dating from the mid-19th Century, its most notable features are its ornate roof decorations and the elaborate plasterwork friezes at the entrance.

The only Mosque in Sarawak built in the Modern Structuralist architectural style, this remarkable building uses steel trusses and a Teflon fabric roof to emphasise the essential simplicity of Islam and its social and spiritual role as
a modern, dynamic and progressive religion.

ST THERESA’S CHURCH (RC)
Jalan Serian-Sri Aman, Serian Reflecting its location in
the Bidayuh heartland, this imposing Catholic Church is built in the style of a baruk or Bidayuh skull-house. Its vast conical roof is one of the town’s major landmarks.

This imposing mosque overlooks the Batang Lupar and has a capacity of 4,000 worshippers.
It was built in 1971 and features a large golden dome and free-standing minaret.

CHURCH (ANGLICAN) Jalan Munggu Sabun, Sri Aman
This new, multi-million ringgit church, completed in 2011, is the second largest Anglican Church in Sarawak.
MOUNT HOSANNA CHAPEL (RC)
Km 157, Jalan Kuching-Sri Aman
A popular place of pilgrimage for local Catholics, this small hillside chapel is reached by climbing 100 steps and
is notable for its rocket- like appearance, which is said to represent votive candles.

TZE YIN KHOR TEMPLE
Jalan Sim Kim, Sri Aman
This late 19th Century temple on the bank of the Batang Lupar is dedicated to the goddess Tze Pei.
It is highly unusual as, according to Feng Shui (Chinese geomancy), it has a “Live Crab” location. Therefore it is painted green rather than the customary red in order to avoid “cooking” the crab.
