design with a circular
roof accommodating a congregation of over 1,000. Reflecting Sarawak’s religious harmony, its principal sponsor is the former Chief Minister
(now Governor), a devout Muslim.

TUA PEK KONG TEMPLE
Jalan Pasar, Mukah
Built in 1879 on the site of an earlier wooden temple, this is the oldest Chinese temple in Central Sarawak and the oldest intact building in Mukah.

One of the most beautiful modern mosques in Sarawak, this large (capacity 1,300) mosque showcases both Islamic and Chinese architecture.
MASJID DARUL TAQWA

This simple yet elegant wooden mosque is one of the oldest in Sarawak, dating from the 1870’s. It serves one of the remotest Muslim communities in Malaysia.

Built on a hilltop overlooking the town, this modern Catholic church was consecrated in 2002, and can accommodate 1,500 worshippers.

HOCK LEONG TIENG TEMPLE
Kapit
Built directly on the river bank, this temple was built in 1890 and is the only Chinese temple in Kapit. Dedicated to Tua Pek Kong, the temple is ornately decorated with spiral dragons and the 12 Chinese zodiac signs.

The Bintulu Divisional Mosque is a powerful symbol of faith, its modern architecture incorporating strong traditional Islamic motifs. A cascading waterfall connects the minaret to the mosque itself.

This striking modern church is the focal point for the Catholic community in Bintulu Division. It has a similar semi-circular interior layout to St Joseph’s Cathedral in Kuching.

Built in 1995, St Thomas’
pitched and terraced roof symbolises the longhouse communities from which the majority of its worshippers originate, while outdoor cloisters reflect the
Medieval English origins of Anglicanism.

TUA PEK KONG TEMPLE

This extensively renovated and modernised temple has stood in the town centre since the 1890’s. One of the busiest temples in Sarawak, its ornate decoration reflects the booming prosperity of Bintulu.

MASJID AT TAQWA

The Miri Divisional Mosque was completed in 1985 and is the largest mosque in Northern Sarawak, with a prayer hall for 1,000 faithful. It enjoys a prominent city- centre location overlooking the Miri City Fan.

CATHEDRAL (RC)

Built on the site of an earlier wooden church, St Joseph’s has been the seat of the Diocese of Miri since 1976. Its unconventional design and colourful decoration make it one of Miri’s more notable landmarks.
ST COLUMBA’S CHURCH (ANGLICAN)
Jalan Kubu, Miri
St Columba’s first Church building was consecrated
in 1923 and replaced by a newer building in 1968 and again in 2013. The splendid new church building can hold a congregation of over 1,000.
