true Sarawak style, Edric Ong creates unique and original fashion collections with themes such as A Kiss of Nature, Jungle Jingle and Sarong Unwrapped. He draws his inspiration from the cultural heritage of his home state and incorporates the weaving and traditional designs
of Sarawak’s indigenous people. His EO label focuses on eco-textiles crafted from silk, cotton and other natural fibres using natural dyes. These are fashioned into a collection of hand-printed and hand- painted scarves, stoles
and clothes for men and women. Even the colours of the fabrics come from the earth: natural tones derived from the rainforest. These contemporary garments are comfortable yet stylish
pieces. Voted one of the Top 3 Fashion Designers
in Malaysia in 2007 and dubbed the Fashion Princes of Malaysian Contemporary Batik by Fashion TV,
UK, they are the only Sarawakian designers to
win the prestigious Piala
Seri Endon award. The
duo is also among the
few Malaysian designers
to have collaborated with Chanel in Como and Polo Ralph Lauren in New York. They have also won the International Show Parade
in Giulianova, Italy, and the Tag Heuer Polo event in New Delhi, India.
They were the official Fashion Designers for Miss World Malaysia 2011, 2012 and 2013 and Fashion Designers for Miss Earth 2012 in Manila. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of
Sarawak’s independence, they transformed an authentic hand-woven Pua- Kumbu fabric into a couture dress which they showcased at the finals of Miss World 2012 in Mongolia. To date, VJC have also ventured to Istanbul, Turkey and have collaborated with some of the biggest fashion players in Europe.
