TANOTI
Tanoti was established in 2012 by Jacqueline Fong
to build on the pioneering work of a research and development workshop supported by the former Raja Permaisuri Agong (Queen) of Malaysia through the Yayasan Tuanku Nur Zahirah. Tanoti seeks to improve the livelihoods
of womenfolk and rural communities through the ancient art of songket (traditional Malay brocade) weaving, as well as making songket relevant in
today’s society. It houses
a community of artisans dedicated to practicing and perfecting this ancient craft. Its objective is to inject
new life into songket
by introducing modern methods and contemporary themes. Tanoti designers expertly achieve the contemporizing effect; and Tanoti weavers are equally enthusiastic in infusing new ideas into their traditional craft. This is best exemplified
in one of its stunning art commissions, the critically acclaimed Serai Project, a collaboration with Dr June Ngo, Lecturer in Textile Design at University Malaysia Sarawak. Contact:
