Rajang Port is a riverine port on the Batang Rajang, the longest river in Malaysia.
It is the principal port and distribution centre for goods to and from the central region of the state, handling ships from various parts of the globe as well as providing vital feeder links
to the nation’s major ports. It is run by the Rajang Port Authority and comprises three operating centres
- Sibu, Sungai Merah and Sarikei.
Sibu is the main operating centre, located 90km from the South China Sea. It has
a 448 metre wharf with a depth of 8.5 metres which provides for 4 multi-purpose berths for vessels up to 10,000 deadweight tonnes (DWT). The Sungei Merah Oil Jetty near Sibu, about
91km from the sea, has a 48.8m wharf used primarily by vessels up to 2,500 DWT carrying bulk fuel oil. The Sarikei Operating Centre
is 48km from the mouth of the Rajang, with a 146 metre general cargo/container berth for vessels up to 3,000 DWT.
In 2013, Rajang Port had a total cargo throughput of 2.16 million tonnes, comprising dry bulk, containerised cargo, liquid bulk and general cargo.
